How do you calculate the number of balls needed for your pattern?
To calculate the number of balls of an equivalent yarn with a different yardage, you need to multiply the total yardage required for the pattern and divide it by the yardage of the new ball.
Example:
If you need 10 balls of lambswool (134m) 10x134m = 1340 m, and you want to knit with Phil Coton 3 (121m), then you must divide 1340 m by 121 m = 11.07, which means 12 balls.
So 10 balls of lambswool = 12 balls of Phil Coton 3 for the same pattern.
